SpongeBob Musical to Premiere on Hero of the Seas

Royal Caribbean is bringing the colorful world of Bikini Bottom to sea. The musical will debut on the new Hero of the Seas in August 2027.

For families and musical fans on board Royal Caribbean, there is a new entertainment option coming in summer 2027. As the cruise line Royal Caribbean Group announced in a press release, the new ship Hero of the Seas will feature the first-ever cruise ship production of a musical based on the famous Nickelodeon cartoon series about SpongeBob SquarePants.

The show, which is based on the Broadway hit that earned twelve Tony Award nominations, will be performed in the ship's Royal Theater. According to Christi Coachman, Vice President of Entertainment at Royal Caribbean, the cruise line aims to offer an experience that brings different generations together.

New Icon-Class Ship to Launch from Miami

Hero of the Seas is the fourth ship in the cruise line's Icon class. Her maiden voyage is scheduled for August 2027. The ship will homeport in the Port of Miami in the USA, widely regarded as the cruise capital of the world.

In addition to the new musical, the cruise line states that the ship will offer various leisure areas and accommodations, including:

A high ropes course called Crown's Edge, suspended 154 feet above the ocean
The Category 6 waterpark
Nine pools, including a new pool called Coconut Cove and an adults-only area
28 different dining venues, such as a restaurant styled like a historic train carriage
Three-story family suites with their own rooftop terrace and hot tub

Caribbean Itineraries

Hero of the Seas will sail seven-night itineraries in the Eastern and Western Caribbean. Every cruise will include a stop at the cruise line's private island, Perfect Day CocoCay in the Bahamas.

Depending on the chosen itinerary, the ship will head west to the Port of Cozumel in Mexico, famous as a top diving destination, and the Port of Roatan in Honduras with its coral reefs. On the eastern routes, the Port of Charlotte Amalie in the US Virgin Islands and the Port of Philipsburg on the island of Sint Maarten, famous for its airport right next to the beach, are on the schedule.
