There is a new digital tool for planning your next cruise: the cruise line Princess Cruises has launched its own application directly within the AI platform ChatGPT. As the company announced in a press release, travelers can now use everyday language to search for itineraries, check prices, and ask for details about the ships, all while remaining directly connected to the cruise line's booking system.

How the AI Planning Works in Chat

According to Princess Cruises, the new application can be installed in ChatGPT and activated in a chat by tagging "@princesscruises". Users can then ask questions in natural language to filter offers from over 345 destinations and 17 ships in the fleet.

According to the press release, the application supports the following features directly within the chat history:

  • Searching for cruises by destination, date, and duration
  • Comparing different ships and itineraries from the cruise line
  • Checking current prices and availability
  • Exploring ports, shore excursions, and onboard experiences

In practice, you could, for example, search for a seven-day voyage in August 2027 that visits the Greek port of Santorini – famous for its blue-and-white Cycladic houses and views of the caldera. Planning an Alaska cruise starting from the US homeport of Seattle, the well-known starting point near sights like the Space Needle, can also be initiated via the chat and then refined according to specific criteria, such as a visit to Glacier Bay National Park.

Background and Future Plans

As reported by the trade magazine Seatrade Cruise News, the application is based on a Large Language Model (LLM) but simultaneously keeps users within the cruise line's booking system. Neena Vicente, Vice President of Digital Commerce and Experience at Princess Cruises, explained: "This launch positions Princess at the forefront of agentic commerce in the cruise industry, creating a new entry point into cruise search."

According to the development company Mobi, Princess Cruises is the first global cruise line to offer such a direct integration into a Large Language Model. According to the cruise line, the application is initially available via ChatGPT, but an expansion to other compatible AI platforms is planned for the future.
